About the Road Trip Optimizer

Plan the perfect baseball road trip in seconds.

What it does

The Road Trip Optimizer finds the shortest driving route to see live baseball across MLB, MiLB, and independent leagues. Enter how many stadiums you want to see in how many days and choose a date window, and you will get results. You can refine your search by filtering on leagues, entering a start location, and flagging stadiums as "must-see".

Routes cover MLB, all four MiLB levels (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A, Low-A), and four independent leagues (American, Atlantic, Frontier, Pioneer), so you can build a pure major league trip, a full minor league swing, an indy ball circuit, or anything in between.

How it works

The optimizer runs a stochastic search over the live schedule, trying thousands of route orderings and keeping the best one found. It respects travel distance between games and returns the route with the fewest total miles driven.

MLB and MiLB schedules are sourced directly from the MLB Stats API; independent league schedules come from each league's official site. All are updated at the start of each season. Stadium coordinates and metadata come from Wikipedia.
